Our team is built on individuals with various backgrounds in the criminal justice field.

Awinna Martinez

Program Manager

Awinna Martinez has spent the majority of her career focused on criminal justice system reform, bringing a human-centered approach to her work. She was most recently the Project Director of the Staten Island Justice Center, which offers an array of programming for both youth and adults with current or past criminal justice system involvement. Most notably, Ms. Martinez led the Justice Center’s pretrial supervised release expansion during New York’s bail reform changes in 2020. She also held program development and management positions at the Midtown Community Court and Newark Community Solutions, focusing on restorative justice, disrupting the school–to–prison pipeline, and reform for youth and adults impacted by the criminal and family court systems. Ms. Martinez also served as the Community Law and Policy Fellow at the Center for Collaborative Change in Newark, where she was the Research Lead for the 2012 Newark Needs and Impact Assessment. Ms. Martinez holds a BA from Rutgers University–New Brunswick and a JD from Rutgers Law School–Newark.
